A Tucker Hood Ornament

Postby Wolfie » Sat Sep 02, 2006 10:28 am

In going through a lot of 'stuff' in my closet that has accumlated over the years, I discovered a hood ornament to a Tucker automobile that my father designed. My father was a diecast engineer and was hired for this purpose. He was often given pieces after the job was completed, kind of like a portfolio to show to other perspective customers. While my father has been gone a long time, I do remember this part of the story, that he was the designer. Is this piece worth anything?

I love it, replying to my own post but I just spoke with my mother. We can't remember the company but the tool and die company was on the south side of Chicago and the first place my father had a job in after the war aparently. God I love history! But I'm still curious as to any worth to it.

Documentation is the key as for the value of it. Which version of the hood ornament is it? The one with lock or the one without? Any drawings, blueprints, etc., you might have with it would also add to the value. Might I suggest that you donate it to the club? Since the club is a non-profit organization, you could deduct the full value of the item on your taxes.

oh sure, you had to ask technical questions! heh heh I'm not sure what version, I'll have to get a picture. I am not a huge Tucker fan I'm afraid, but I am learning! As for the blueprints, since he was with a company at the time, I'm afraid they are probably lost. I would certainly consider donating it. I'm not sure yet if I wish to part with it, it having some sentimental value of course. If my mother's calculations were correct, that may have been one of his first jobs. I wish we could remember the company name! alas, I will work on getting a picture and deciding just what i wish to do with it!

The Tucker Hood Ornament was made by Doehler Jarvis and carried part number 200625. This could possibly be the company your Dad worked for.
